slavery apologist kin debunks shroud of turin

Fri Mar 25, 2005 at 07:47:01 AM PDT

greetings from idaho!  it's a busy day for me, but I have to take a minute to tell kossacks about an interesting connection between today's headlines and an earlier story of interest.

Todays story:  "Teacher Claims Shroud of Turin is a Fake," reports on an English Teacher, Nathan Wilson, who made news in some Christian Intellectual Journal for claiming he knows the mechanism used to fake the shroud of turin.  He also claims that he's going to write a novel on the subject, a la Da Vinci Code.

What makes this interesting: Remember the story a few months back about the Christian school in North Carolina that was teaching from the monograph "Southern Slavery as it Was"?  That piece was a largely plagerized work teaching high schoolers that slavery was the high point in race relations in America (no fooling).  The Southern Poverty Law Center has more information on the author of that piece, Doug Wilson, and his church, Christ Church.  They are very anti-gay and border on hate group status.  (There was much info on this is an a diary in december or january but I could not locate it with my rudimentary searching skills.)

Here's the connection:  The teacher who is debunking the shroud is a the son or nephew of the author of "Southern Slavery as It Was" and is a part of the Wilson empire, New Saint Andrews College. The College is near my home town and we all watch it closely, since its leaders clearly see themselves as destined for better things in American politics.  They are real theocrats, in the true sense of the word.  I fear this shroud thing is somehow part of the power grab and is very icky.  If ayone knows any shroud of turin fans, please point out to them that this guy Nathan Wilson should be exposed and go down in flames.
