baby right wing hacks

Earlier today, bobcatjh wrote a diary, http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/3/3/115044/2355 complaining about a lame-ass column in his local student paper.  This struck a nerve.  Our local college paper, which is really quite good and is widely read in our college town, publishes a "conservative" column  from a student who clearly doesn't know his a** from a hole in the ground.  Yesterday's column didn't disappoint. It was a bill o'reilly-inspired rant about the secularist attack on america.  here's a sample:
The concept of church, or religion, is not synonymous with concept of God. A religion constitutes a specific sect or creed, with specific traditions and beliefs. The concept of God, on the other hand, is specific only to the individual. While a religion is a function of like-minded individuals practicing their common beliefs, the shared belief in a god is not the same thing.

This may seem painfully obvious to some, but to most it is not. Why else would the 90 percent of Americans who believe in the concept of God stand idly by while secularists attempt to systematically remove God from our society? In a word, the answer is deception

.

I generally avoid this column.  In fact I avoid the editorial page and even avoid thinking about this.  I think -- it would be exceptionally easy to tear this guy to shreds (and the paper publishes all letters to the editor) but my life is too short.

Bobcat's comment made me think again.  Are the baby right wing hacks spouting this kind of crap at schools all over america?  is it safe to ignore them?  one of our biggest strategic errors was to ignore the limbaugh's and the coulters for too long.  these guys may be impressing fellow students with their bullshit.  I don't think their rants can go unanswered.

Is there anyone out there with the stomach to adopt a baby right wing hack and shoot him down  when necessary?  It would be a tremendous public service and help me avoid an ulcer.
